BRICS Friendship Sunday on Cycle Promotes Fitness Initiative in Visakhapatnam

Visakhapatnam, August 23: Central Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya participated in the ‘Sunday on Cycle’ event held in Visakhapatnam. This edition of the event was special, coinciding with the BRICS nations’ meeting.

Speaking to the media after the event, Mandaviya stated, “The ‘BRICS Friendship Sunday on Cycle’ was organized during the BRICS conference in Visakhapatnam. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Fit India initiative is progressing well. Over 18,000 locations across the country are hosting Sunday on Cycle events, promoting fitness among the youth.”

He emphasized, “Cycling is one of the best forms of exercise. It helps keep our environment clean and safe while conserving fuel. To build a developed India, we must stay fit. A healthy individual contributes to a healthy society, and a healthy society builds a strong and fit nation. Prime Minister Modi initiated this fitness campaign with that goal in mind. We are all playing our part by cycling every Sunday to support this initiative.”

India is hosting the BRICS Youth Ministers and Sports Ministers meeting in Visakhapatnam on August 22 and 23, 2026, under its BRICS presidency. These two-day meetings include ministers and delegations from all 11 BRICS member countries. The aim is to strengthen cooperation in youth affairs and sports among BRICS nations.

Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya is chairing these meetings, with State Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Raksha Khadse, also participating.

The BRICS Sports Ministers meeting on August 23 will include sports ministers and heads of delegations from the 11 BRICS member countries. This meeting will reaffirm their shared commitment to enhancing cooperation in sports.

The theme of India’s BRICS presidency in 2026 is “Building Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability,” reflecting a people-centered approach that prioritizes humanity.

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports stated, “These ministerial meetings will advance discussions and meetings held during India’s BRICS presidency and provide a significant platform to enhance cooperation among BRICS member countries.”
