BLF Attack Kills Three Pakistani Army Majors in Balochistan, Four Militants Killed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Operation

Islamabad, July 30 — The Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF), which is engaged in an armed struggle for Balochistan’s independence, has claimed responsibility for killing three Pakistan Army officers of major rank. Meanwhile, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bajaur district, the Pakistan Army launched Operation Sarbakaf, reportedly killing at least four militants.

According to The Balochistan Post (Balochi-language service), the BLF claimed that Major Syed Rabnawaz Tariq Awaran was killed in an ambush set up with road blockades in the Jhao region. In another attack near Jabal Noor in Shaal, Major Anwar Kakar was killed in a bombing by the BLA’s STOS unit. In the mountainous region of Mastung, Major Saleem and several other officers were reportedly killed during clashes between Baloch Liberation Army fighters and Pakistan soldiers.

Armed groups fighting for Baloch independence have also imposed restrictions on pilgrimage travel through land routes connecting Balochistan with Iran and Iraq.

Operation Sarbakaf Underway in Bajaur, Civilian Casualties Reported

According to Dawn newspaper, Pakistan security forces initiated Operation Sarbakaf on Tuesday in the Loee Mamund Tehsil of Bajaur, using gunship helicopters and artillery. A sudden three-day curfew was imposed in 16 areas of the district starting from 5 AM on July 29 to 5 PM on July 31, as per orders from the Pakistan Army.

Sources told Dawn that at least four militants were killed, twelve others injured, and around ten captured alive during the operation in various parts of Loee Mamund. However, no official confirmation has been issued by the security forces or police.

Local residents reported that two civilians, including a child, were killed and eight others injured during exchanges of fire. The injured included two children and one woman. Some residents also alleged that security forces targeted homes suspected of sheltering militants.

Political Leaders Condemn Curfew and Military Action

Several politicians have condemned the imposition of the curfew and the military operation. Among them are MPs Dr. Hameedur Rehman, Anwar Zeb Khan, Mohammad Nisar Khan, former MP Gul Zafar Khan, and PM’s special assistant Mubarak Zeb Khan. They demanded an immediate end to the curfew and military action. Dr. Hameedur Rehman warned that he would lead public protests if the operation was not stopped. Jamaat-e-Islami leader and former senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan also called for an immediate halt to the military campaign.
