Kolkata, September 23 (Daily Kiran) : Jitendra Tiwari, a prominent leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), addressed recent violence between BJP and Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers in Mukundpur, Kolkata. The clashes resulted in several injuries and hospitalizations. Tiwari emphasized that attacking individuals or infringing on democratic rights is not part of the BJP’s agenda. He asserted that the party is focused on bringing change to West Bengal and establishing the rule of law in the state.
Tiwari acknowledged that past actions by certain individuals have led to public anger, causing some leaders to face backlash. He urged citizens to refrain from taking the law into their own hands. The government, he stated, will take action against those involved in antisocial activities within the legal framework.
Commenting on the attack against Humayun Kabir, Tiwari condemned physical violence as unacceptable in a democratic society. He clarified that neither the BJP nor the government supports such acts. He accused some political figures of inciting unrest for personal gain, which only heightens public agitation. While the BJP can manage its workers, Tiwari noted that controlling the general populace is challenging. He emphasized the need for all parties to exercise restraint to prevent such incidents.
Regarding the 20 MPs who left TMC for the Nationalist Congress Party and ongoing Supreme Court cases, Tiwari admitted he lacks full information on the matter. He referred to the West Bengal Assembly, where complaints were made regarding legislators who switched from BJP to TMC, highlighting the delays in decision-making by the assembly speaker.
Tiwari reaffirmed the BJP’s promise to uphold citizens’ rights to speak out and criticize the government. He welcomed constructive criticism, viewing it as an opportunity for improvement rather than hostility.
On the behavior of BJP workers, Tiwari stated that the party has consistently aimed to differentiate itself from TMC. Since the BJP has not yet governed West Bengal, examples of its governance style are absent. He acknowledged that some workers may inadvertently mimic TMC or CPI(M) tactics. The party remains vigilant, addressing any deviations from its principles promptly.
Tiwari urged those engaging in misconduct to recognize the implications of power transition and to adhere to party guidelines when clarified.
