CM Yogi Adityanath emphasizes womens safety and welfare programs in Uttar Pradesh during the inauguration of a womens shelter.

Gorakhpur, September 23 (Daily Kiran) : Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath recently criticized the Samajwadi Party (SP) for its handling of women’s safety prior to 2017. Speaking at the inauguration of a new women’s shelter in Gorakhpur, he recounted a time when parents were fearful for their daughters’ safety, coining the phrase, “Look, SP, the daughter is scared.” He attributed this atmosphere of fear to the actions of the previous government, which he claimed allowed lawlessness to flourish.

He noted that the government and society have worked together towards this change. The newly constructed women’s shelter, which can accommodate 100 women, was built at a cost of over ₹8 crores and is equipped with essential facilities.

During the ceremony, the Chief Minister emphasized that women fleeing domestic violence or other hardships will no longer have to face hardships alone. This shelter aims to provide a safe haven for women in distress. He reiterated the government’s commitment to honoring and protecting women, promoting their self-reliance, and contributing to the vision of a developed India.

The Chief Minister highlighted various initiatives aimed at supporting women, including the Mukhyamantri Kanya Sumangala Yojana, which offers financial assistance of ₹25,000 from birth to graduation. He also mentioned the Chief Minister’s mass marriage scheme, providing ₹1 lakh for weddings, and educational support for over 1.6 crore children in basic education schools.

Adityanath criticized the opposition, particularly the SP, regarding job creation, stating that his government has already provided over 9.5 lakh government jobs under the Mission Employment initiative. He noted the growth of employment opportunities through 96 lakh MSME units, which have created jobs for more than three crore people, many of whom are women.

The CM also remarked on the significant changes in infrastructure in Gorakhpur, including improved road, rail, and air connectivity, enabling faster travel to Varanasi. He reassured that the women’s shelter will serve as a support system for those affected by domestic violence or family separation, emphasizing the government’s role in reuniting individuals with their families.

In closing, CM Yogi Adityanath inspected a facility for juveniles under construction, which will accommodate 100 youths, built at a cost of ₹14.87 crores. He expressed his expectations for the women’s welfare department to effectively manage the shelter and wished attendees well on the occasion of Vamana Jayanti.
