Kolkata, February 10: BJP leader Locket Chatterjee has sharply criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, claiming she approached the Supreme Court not for the welfare of the people of Bengal, but to protect Rohingyas.
Chatterjee stated that if Banerjee truly cared about the interests of Bengal’s citizens, she would not oppose the Special Investigation Report (SIR). He emphasized that her government is built on the support of Rohingya and Bangladeshi infiltrators, and thus she would make every effort to defend them.
He pointed out that SIR is being conducted across the country, and it should also take place in Bengal. If the government continues to resist the SIR, the court should heed the voice of the people.
Chatterjee remarked that the situation for the TMC government in Bengal is precarious. They have realized that they cannot win elections based on fraudulent voters this time.
He expressed gratitude to the Supreme Court for hearing the SIR case, welcoming the court’s comments during the proceedings. He noted that the Supreme Court listens to the people’s concerns in the interest of the nation.
It is noteworthy that on Monday, the Supreme Court heard petitions from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and other TMC leaders regarding the SIR case. The court extended the deadline for document verification and the final voter list in West Bengal by one week. The previous deadline for releasing the final voter list was February 14.
The Supreme Court instructed the West Bengal government to ensure that the 8,505 Group B officers it provided report to the election officer (Electoral Registration Officer) by 5 PM tomorrow. The Election Commission of India may utilize these officers instead of its own if needed. The court clarified that the role of micro observers or Group B officers will solely be to assist the ERO, who will make the final decisions regarding the voter list.
