Chinmaya Amrit Mahotsav to Celebrate 75 Years of Chinmaya Mission in Delhi

The Chinmaya Amrit Mahotsav will be held in Delhi from October 23-25 to connect youth with the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita.

New Delhi, October 14 (Daily Kiran) : The Chinmaya Mission is set to celebrate its 75th anniversary with the Chinmaya Amrit Mahotsav, taking place from October 23 to 25 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. The global head of the Chinmaya Mission, Swami Swaroopanand, emphasized the mission’s focus on spreading Indian spiritual knowledge and connecting youth with the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita.

In an interview, Swami Swaroopanand explained that the mission aims not only to disseminate spiritual wisdom but also to uplift individuals, society, and the nation through Indian philosophical traditions. He anticipates thousands of participants from India and abroad at the upcoming event.

The Chinmaya Mission was founded by the revered Guru Swami Chinmayananda, who initially pursued journalism before venturing to the Himalayas to understand the lives of saints. His encounters with luminaries like Swami Sivananda and Swami Tapovan deeply influenced him.

After studying Vedanta and the Bhagavad Gita in the Himalayas, Swami Chinmayananda recognized a significant gap in awareness among Indian youth regarding their rich cultural and spiritual heritage. This realization propelled him to commit to spreading the teachings of Vedanta and the Gita across the nation.

Swami Swaroopanand highlighted that Swami Chinmayananda believed that individual transformation leads to national change. He initiated Gita knowledge yagnas across the country to educate people about life’s purpose, duties, and values.

Today, the Chinmaya Mission’s reach extends from rural areas to major cities worldwide, focusing on education, cultural values, youth development, women’s empowerment, and value-based learning. Various programs cater to children, youth, families, and senior citizens.

As part of the 75th-anniversary celebrations, the Chinmaya Amrit Mahotsav will feature numerous events both in India and abroad, including readings of the Hanuman Chalisa, awareness campaigns on the Bhagavad Gita, and special journeys for youth. Thousands of young people are actively promoting Indian culture and values in villages and cities.

Swami Swaroopanand stated that the conference will include sessions focused on service, culture, Vedanta, and Indian values, aiming to convey the message of Guru Swami Chinmayananda to the new generation.

Regarding today’s youth, he asserted that while not all are lost, they require guidance and purpose. The Bhagavad Gita provides confidence, a sense of duty, and life goals.

He referenced the famous verse from the Gita, “Uddharedatmanatmanam natmanam avasadayet,” emphasizing the importance of self-effort in personal development and maintaining a positive mindset. The mind can be one’s greatest ally or adversary.

To connect youth with the Gita, the Chinmaya Mission conducts regular youth centers, study groups, dialogue sessions, and training programs. These initiatives help young individuals understand Indian philosophical traditions and find solutions to life’s challenges.

Swami Swaroopanand reiterated that the mission’s goal is not merely to provide religious education but to cultivate responsible and aware citizens who can actively contribute to societal and national development. He expressed confidence that by embracing the values of Indian culture, Vedanta, and the Bhagavad Gita, youth can enhance their futures and play vital roles in nation-building.
