Chennai, March 16: The BJP has launched a strong attack on the ruling DMK government in Tamil Nadu regarding the state’s deteriorating law and order situation. This statement follows an incident where intoxicated individuals allegedly entered a government hospital’s maternity ward, threatening doctors and patients present there.
Nainar Nagendran, the BJP’s Tamil Nadu state president, referenced the recent event at a government hospital in Kattumannarkoil, Cuddalore district, as a clear indication of the rising drug menace in the state.
In a statement released on Monday, he noted that individuals under the influence of cannabis entered the maternity ward armed with sickles, intimidating both medical staff and patients.
While there were no reports of injuries from the incident, Nagendran expressed deep concern over such occurrences in sensitive locations like hospitals, particularly in maternity wards.
He stated, “It is extremely troubling that intoxicated individuals can enter a government hospital, especially the maternity ward, and threaten doctors and patients with weapons. This raises serious questions about public safety and the security measures in hospitals.”
Nagendran accused the Tamil Nadu government of allowing the availability of narcotics to increase, leading to such incidents. According to him, these substances are now easily accessible, even in small neighborhood shops.
He remarked, “The current government has seen a rise in drug availability. Intoxicated individuals can be seen roaming around many public places, including government schools, hospitals, and offices.”
The BJP leader also pointed out that the increase in drug-related incidents has created a climate of fear among the public, making them hesitant to confront such individuals.
Mocking Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s promise to make Tamil Nadu a drug-free state, Nagendran accused the DMK government of downplaying the seriousness of this issue.
He concluded by demanding that the state government take immediate and effective action against the spread of narcotics and ensure the safety of the general public.
