New Delhi, March 16: The suspension of eight MPs from Parliament may be lifted tomorrow. According to sources, a proposal will be introduced in Parliament to revoke their suspension. This agreement was reached during an all-party meeting convened by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Monday.
Sources indicate that both ruling and opposition MPs participated in the all-party meeting. The consensus was that the suspension should be lifted to ensure smooth proceedings in the House. It was also decided that the suspended MPs would be instructed to maintain decorum and refrain from using any inappropriate or objectionable language in the future.
Information suggests that a proposal to end the suspension will be presented in Parliament on Tuesday. Sources say this proposal may be introduced by the opposition, and a decision will be made with the House’s consent. Recently, eight MPs were suspended due to disruptions during House proceedings and alleged use of inappropriate language. The opposition has since protested this decision, demanding its reversal.
The all-party meeting on Monday involved extensive discussions on the matter, ultimately agreeing that lifting the suspension is essential for the smooth functioning of the House and to maintain a political consensus. If the proposal is passed, these MPs will be able to participate in House proceedings again starting Tuesday.
It is noteworthy that seven Congress MPs and one CPM MP from Madurai were suspended for allegedly disrupting House proceedings and throwing papers at the Speaker during the budget session. The suspended MPs include Hibi Eden, Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Manickam Tagore, Gurjeet Singh Aujla, Kiran Kumar Reddy, Prashant Padole, S. Venkatesan, and Dean Kuriakos.
