Kolkata, April 7: In a bold move, BJP candidate Raju Patra arrived on a bulldozer to file his nomination for the Galasi assembly seat in East Bardhaman district on Tuesday. His message was clear: if elected, he plans to use the bulldozer to eliminate issues such as oppression, corruption, violence against women, and lack of development.
On Tuesday, a unique campaign strategy was observed in East Bardhaman. Patra claimed that inspired by Uttar Pradesh’s ‘bulldozer model’, strict actions would be taken against crimes like murder, rape, and extortion in West Bengal, implementing a ‘bulldozer raj’.
Speaking to local media, he stated, “We will adopt the bulldozer model from Uttar Pradesh to curb crimes like murder, rape, and extortion in West Bengal. I will ensure that such crimes do not occur once I am elected.”
The nomination event saw extensive preparations in East Bardhaman. Uttar Pradesh’s Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya was present as the chief guest.
On this day, candidates from Galasi, Ausgram, Bardhaman North, Bardhaman South, and Bhatar constituencies gathered at Bardhaman railway station to file their nominations. Meanwhile, candidates from Memari, Khandaghosh, Jamalpur, and Rayna joined the procession from Baranilpur Chowrasta.
The processions from both directions converged at a significant location, the Curzon Gate, from where all candidates proceeded together to submit their nominations.
The first phase of voting in Bengal will take place on April 23, covering 152 seats. The second phase is scheduled for April 29, with voting on 142 seats. The results of the assembly elections will be announced on May 4.
