Badrinath, September 20 (Daily Kiran) : Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami arrived at Badrinath Temple on Sunday, receiving a grand welcome from temple committee officials and members adorned with floral garlands.
The visit has generated considerable excitement among local residents and pilgrims. For security reasons, police and administrative teams have been deployed throughout the Badrinath area. During his visit, the Chief Minister greeted attendees with folded hands and inquired about their well-being.
Dhami is expected to participate in the ongoing Devbhoomi Cultural Festival and Katha Mahotsav, which showcases the rich folk culture and traditions of Uttarakhand. The festival began on Saturday and features Garhwali folk dance, music, cultural performances by students from local schools and colleges, as well as local handicrafts, handloom products, organic items, and traditional cuisine.
Organized under the joint initiative of the Indian Army and the Chamoli district administration, the festival’s theme is “Our Heritage, Our Future.” The aim is to preserve Uttarakhand’s cultural heritage while promoting tourism in remote areas and providing a platform for local art and culture.
Additionally, a special exhibition by the Indian Army will highlight its role in nation-building, border security, and disaster relief efforts, showcasing the Army’s commitment to society and its connection with remote regions.
Various stalls featuring women self-help groups, local artisans, farmers, and young entrepreneurs will be set up at the venue. These stalls will display local products, handicrafts, handloom items, organic goods, and traditional dishes, aiming to boost the market for local products and enhance economic activities for women and youth.
The festival will also showcase the natural beauty, cultural diversity, and spiritual significance of the surrounding villages. Organizers hope to familiarize visitors with the lifestyle and cultural heritage of the remote areas, while also emphasizing the importance of tourism-based economic activities to create job and self-employment opportunities at the local level.
This event is seen as an initiative to accelerate tourism and economic development in remote areas, aligning with the spirit of the Vibrant Villages Program. It offers local artists, artisans, farmers, women self-help groups, and young entrepreneurs a chance to present their talents and products to pilgrims and tourists from across the country and beyond.
