BJP Accuses TMC of Protecting Intruders, Calls for Fencing at Borders

Patna, March 29: Leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) demanded the installation of fencing in border areas adjacent to Bangladesh in West Bengal. They accused the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government, led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, of providing protection to intruders.

This statement came a day after Union Home Minister Amit Shah released a 35-page white paper criticizing the TMC’s 15 years of governance in West Bengal. The document claims that 569 kilometers of the 2,216.7-kilometer international border with Bangladesh remains unfenced. This situation is allegedly due to delays in land acquisition for barbed wire fencing by the state government, which has facilitated increased infiltration.

Earlier in the day, Bihar minister and BJP leader Dilip Kumar Jaiswal told reporters that the border areas of Bengal, which were once adjacent to East Pakistan, now stretch from West Bengal to Assam along Bangladesh. He emphasized the necessity of fencing throughout the region.

He further explained that the terrain includes hilly areas and rivers, complicating the fencing process, which illegal intruders exploit. Therefore, it is crucial for national security to erect barriers to prevent any attempts to breach the country’s safety.

Notably, the BJP’s document accused the TMC of running a syndicate that issues fake identity cards to intruders to create a ‘vote bank,’ thereby jeopardizing national security and demographic balance.

Bihar BJP President Sanjay Saraogi supported the party’s white paper, reiterating accusations against the TMC-led West Bengal government for sheltering illegal immigrants.

He stated that Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks regarding the situation in West Bengal and the TMC government, including Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, are entirely accurate. The TMC is allegedly providing protection to all types of intruders, including Rohingyas and Bangladeshis.

Saraogi also claimed that illegal immigration is leading to the misuse of the state’s resources.
