Bihar Reports 28 Corruption Cases in Two Months, Marking a Significant Increase

Patna, March 3: The Bihar Vigilance Investigation Bureau has registered 28 corruption-related cases against individuals in just the first two months of this year, specifically January and February. This figure represents a staggering 28-fold increase compared to the same period in 2024 and a fourfold increase from 2025.

Officials attribute this success to the continuous raids conducted by the bureau’s specialized teams and the training they receive. During a press briefing, Director General Jitendra Singh Gangwar revealed that only 10 corruption cases were filed in January and February of 2023. In contrast, there was one case in January-February 2024 and seven cases in the same months of 2025. Over the past three years, from 2023 to 2025, a total of 18 cases were recorded in the initial two months. In stark contrast, 28 cases have already been filed in January and February of 2026 alone. The bureau has seized ₹799,000 in these cases, with public servants caught red-handed accepting bribes and in possession of disproportionate assets.

Gangwar emphasized the bureau’s unwavering commitment to combating corruption. The team has been further strengthened, leading to a consistent increase in the number of actions taken.

Reviewing data from the past 25 years, Gangwar noted that an average of 72 cases have been filed annually, equating to about six cases per month against corrupt officials. The year 2025 saw a surge in actions, resulting in 122 cases being registered. This year, an average of 10 cases against public servants has been reported monthly. The Vigilance Investigation Bureau operates around the clock, streamlining the process for taking action. In 2025, 30 cases resulted in convictions, and four cases have already been adjudicated in 2026. Many cases are being expedited through speedy trials, with approximately 200 cases currently targeted for action.
