Bihar Police Crackdown on Corruption Racket, Four Arrested Including SHO

Patna, August 20: A serious case of alleged illegal detention, extortion, and bribery has emerged from the Jadoopur police station in Gopalganj district, Bihar, prompting the district police to take decisive action.

Initial investigations reveal that several individuals were reportedly held for hours without any FIR, official records, or legal justification, with one case involving detention for nearly 36 hours. Allegations surfaced that families were threatened with false cases and extorted for money in exchange for release or removal of charges.

On August 16, Gopalganj Superintendent of Police (SP) Vinay Kumar received information about the alleged racket and instructed the DSP (Headquarters) to investigate the claims. The subsequent inquiry uncovered multiple instances of extortion.

Investigators found evidence of a person allegedly demanding ₹50,000 through a middleman. In another case, accused officials extorted ₹75,000 for the release of a woman and her minor daughter. Similarly, the accused SHO and his subordinate staff demanded ₹55,000 to remove a young man’s name from a case. The investigation team uncovered repeated telephone conversations between the then-SHO and the alleged middleman.

Based on the DSP’s findings, a case was registered on August 18 against four individuals, including the SHO of Jadoopur police station. Following this, police arrested the then-SHO Anil Ram, alleged middleman Raju Yadav, and village watchmen Rakesh Kumar and Mahant Kumar Yadav. The SHO and two watchmen were also suspended immediately and sent to judicial custody.

In light of this incident, the Gopalganj police administration reiterated its ‘zero-tolerance’ policy against corruption, abuse of power, and illegal detention. SP Vinay Kumar warned that strict action would be taken against any police personnel or middlemen attempting to interfere in investigations or intimidate witnesses.
