Sehore, August 19: A heartbreaking incident occurred in Sehore district of Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday, resulting in the drowning of three children, including two brothers. According to police reports, the children fell into a pit filled with rainwater while playing and were unable to escape due to the depth of the water.
The tragedy took place around 1 PM near Mogra Road in the Ichhawar area of Sehore district. It is reported that the children had gone there to play and decided to enter the pit for a swim, but the water was too deep, leading to their drowning.
The victims have been identified as 12-year-old Prashant, his 10-year-old brother Prithviraj, and 11-year-old Dikshant. Prashant and Prithviraj were the sons of Subhal Bagri, while Dikshant was the son of Akhilesh Bagri. All three children were residents of Ward Number 12 in Ichhawar.
The incident came to light when local residents spotted the children’s bodies floating in the water and alerted the police.
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Prashant Choubey stated that the families of the children had reported the drowning to the police. He said, “When the police arrived at the scene, they found three children of different ages. The pit on Mogra Road was filled with rainwater. Due to the depth, the children could not manage to save themselves, resulting in their tragic deaths.”
The police team retrieved the bodies and sent them to the hospital for post-mortem examinations.
ASP Choubey mentioned that the police are investigating all aspects of the incident, including the condition of the pit and any potential negligence. He added, “We will investigate the matter from various angles. If any negligence is found, action will be taken accordingly.”
This incident has raised concerns once again about the safety of open and water-filled construction pits during the monsoon season, especially in areas where children tend to play.
