Bhopal, August 19: A tragic incident occurred in the Kolar area of Bhopal when a young man, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, crashed his Innova car into several people. Among those affected was a 35-year-old man riding a scooter, who lost his life in the accident, while his son sustained serious injuries.
According to police reports, the accident took place late Tuesday night near Ankit Complex, as Shubham Awasthi and his son Madhav were traveling on their scooter.
Sanjay Soni, the SHO of Kolar Police Station, confirmed that the 21-year-old driver was intoxicated at the time of the incident. Before colliding with the scooter, the speeding vehicle had already struck several pedestrians on the road. The impact severely damaged the scooter, causing the father and son to be thrown away from the scene.
Police stated that the accused had borrowed the car from an acquaintance to attend a party. Empty bottles of alcohol, disposable cups, and condoms were found inside the vehicle. The airbags deployed upon impact, preventing the driver from sustaining serious injuries.
Local residents expressed their outrage following the accident. They apprehended the driver and assaulted him, even damaging the vehicle in the process.
Upon receiving information about the incident, police arrived at the scene and rescued the driver from the angry mob before taking him into custody.
Soni mentioned that investigations are ongoing, with inquiries being conducted with eyewitnesses to gather more details about the circumstances surrounding the accident.
Shubham Awasthi was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead by doctors. His body has been sent for post-mortem examination and will be handed over to his family afterward. Meanwhile, his son Madhav is receiving treatment for serious injuries.
The police have initiated an investigation to determine how this tragic accident occurred.
