Alert Issued After Suspicious Plate Found in Dhanbad SBI ATM

Dhanbad, October 10 (Daily Kiran) : In Dhanbad, Jharkhand, a new case of ATM fraud has emerged, prompting local authorities to take immediate action. Cybercriminals are reportedly targeting unsuspecting customers using a novel approach.

At an SBI ATM located in Matkuria, police discovered a suspicious plate in the cash dispenser slot. This device is believed to have been intended to compromise the ATM, potentially leading to theft from customers withdrawing cash.

On Saturday morning, a customer experienced an unauthorized deduction of ₹1,000 from their account, yet no cash was dispensed. This incident follows a prior case involving a ₹3,000 loss at the same ATM. Concerns have been raised regarding the lack of security personnel and the functionality of CCTV cameras at the site.

In response to these incidents, Dhanbad Senior Superintendent of Police Prabhat Kumar has issued a directive to all banks in the area, emphasizing the need to enhance ATM security measures. Kumar’s letter called for regular maintenance of CCTV systems and thorough inspections of ATMs to prevent tampering and fraud.

Victim Amresh Kumar Das expressed his concerns about the ongoing security issues at various ATMs in Dhanbad. He highlighted that many ATMs either lack security guards or have non-functional surveillance cameras, raising alarms about the safety of people’s hard-earned money.

SSP Prabhat Kumar stated that they have received reports of tampering attempts at ATMs. He has instructed local police officers and polling parties to remain vigilant. Additionally, he urged banks to conduct regular checks on their ATMs and repair any malfunctioning surveillance equipment to safeguard customer transactions.
