Patna, June 16: The political landscape in Bihar has intensified following the Supreme Court‘s issuance of a notice to Panchayati Raj Minister Deepak Prakash. In response to requests for clarification regarding his appointment, Prakash addressed the media on Tuesday. He also congratulated Upendra Kushwaha, the leader of the Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM), on his unopposed election as the party’s national president.
During a press interaction in Patna, Deepak Prakash expressed pride in Kushwaha’s new role. He stated, “I extend my heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to Upendra Kushwaha on being elected as the national president of the Rashtriya Lok Morcha. I also congratulate all party leaders, workers, and supporters on this occasion. Kushwaha is an experienced and dedicated leader, under whose guidance the party will advance with greater strength.”
When questioned about the Supreme Court notice and the legality of his appointment without being an elected member of the Legislative Assembly or Council, Prakash mentioned that he had not yet received any official notice. He remarked, “I learned about the Supreme Court notice through the media. Until I receive an official notice, it would not be appropriate to comment in detail on this matter. Once I receive the notice, I will study the legal aspects and respond accordingly.”
When pressed about whether he would resign from his ministerial position in light of the situation, he did not provide a definitive answer and stated that the decision would rest with the coalition leadership. Deepak Prakash noted, “I was a minister before and I am currently a minister. Any decision regarding this matter will be made by the coalition leadership. We respect the decisions of the coalition and the party.”
Legal questions have been raised regarding Prakash’s appointment without being an elected member. In this context, the Supreme Court has issued notices to him, the Bihar government, and the Election Commission seeking responses. However, the minister has refrained from commenting on speculation, indicating he is waiting for the official notice.
