Bihar Governor Reviews Road Construction Projects, Emphasizes Earthquake Preparedness

Patna, March 29: Bihar’s Governor, Lieutenant General Syed Ata Hasnain (Retd.), reviewed key projects and ongoing works of the Road Construction Department, providing several important directives. The meeting took place at the Governor’s Secretariat, where the Principal Secretary of the department shared insights on its vision, new initiatives, and the current and proposed projects of the Bihar State Road Development Corporation, Bihar State Bridge Construction Corporation, and NHAI.

The Governor praised the development work in Bihar over the past two decades. He noted significant improvements in law and order, as well as infrastructure development. “The ability to reach Patna from any corner of Bihar within five hours is commendable. It reflects the changing landscape of Bihar,” he stated.

During the meeting, the Governor suggested incorporating aircraft landing facilities and helipads in road construction plans. He mentioned that the Prime Minister had also recommended this approach, highlighting the critical need for helipads during disaster management. He stressed the importance of considering Bihar’s earthquake sensitivity during bridge construction, emphasizing the vital role of roads in national security.

The Governor also underscored the necessity of friendly toll plazas, ensuring that all essential amenities are available for travelers. He called for the development of a comprehensive road ecosystem. The Principal Secretary of the Road Construction Department assured that these aspects are being taken into account in new projects.

Attendees included the Governor’s Principal Secretary Dr. Robert L. Chongthu, Secretary of the Road Construction Department Pankaj Kumar Pal, Managing Director of the Bihar State Road Development Corporation Tishat Kapil Ashok, Managing Director of the Bihar State Bridge Construction Corporation Jitendra Kumar, senior engineers from NHAI and the Road Construction Department, along with other officials from the Governor’s Secretariat.

The Governor instructed the department to complete all projects in a timely manner while maintaining high-quality standards. He emphasized that better roads would not only accelerate economic development but also enhance disaster management and national security.
