Bihar Data Entry Operator Arrested for Taking Bribe of ₹15,000

Patna, June 17: In a significant anti-corruption initiative, the Bihar Vigilance Bureau arrested a data entry operator on Tuesday for accepting a bribe of ₹15,000 at the circle office in Bettiah, located in the West Champaran district.

The operation caused a stir in the government office, leading to discussions among employees throughout the day.

According to officials, the accused allegedly demanded ₹15,000 from Baleshwar Mahto, a resident of Barwat Prasaren in the Muzaffarpur police station area, to reactivate an inactive land record.

Frustrated by this demand, the complainant contacted vigilance officials and filed a formal complaint.

The investigation was assigned to Officer Rahul Kumar, who confirmed the allegations during the preliminary inquiry. Upon validating the complaint, the vigilance team devised a plan to catch the accused red-handed while accepting the bribe.

On Tuesday, as the complainant handed over the ₹15,000 inside the circle office premises, the vigilance team swiftly moved in and arrested him on the spot.

Following the arrest, officials also examined the documents available in the office. The sudden raid created panic and chaos in the circle office premises.

The operation was led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Shyam Babu Prasad Srivastava, with other officials including Devlal Srivastava, Ashish Chaube, Digvijay Singh, Krishna Jeevan Kumar Srivastava, Rahul Kumar, Krishna Singh, Waseem Ahmed, and Himanshu Singh, along with armed police personnel.

According to vigilance officials, the accused is the son of Pramod Mishra and hails from Pakdahar village in the Chanpatia police station area. They stated that after questioning and completing legal formalities, the accused would be presented in the vigilance court.

This action is viewed as a significant blow against corruption in government offices and has reignited discussions on transparency and accountability in public administration in Bihar.
