Bihar: Breach in Raghopur-Narkatiya Embankment Causes Rapid Water Spread

Bhagalpur, August 24: A significant breach occurred late Monday night around 3 AM in the Raghopur-Narkatiya embankment, located near the camp office of the Water Resources Department in the ancestral village of Bihar’s Energy Minister Shailesh Kumar, also known as Bulo Mandal. Following the breach, water began to spread rapidly in the surrounding areas. Upon receiving the news, teams from the administration and police quickly arrived on the scene to initiate rescue and relief operations.

As water spread further into the affected region, local residents began moving to safer, elevated areas. In response to the situation, a team of engineers from the Water Resources Department arrived to halt the breach and commence repairs. Local villagers also joined in the repair efforts. The police team, led by Sub-Divisional Police Officer Aniket Amar from Naugachia, reached the site to assess the situation.

The police conducted a site inspection and contacted local residents to ensure their safety, taking necessary measures. A police presence has been established in the area to prevent any untoward incidents and maintain law and order. According to Naugachia police, both the District Magistrate of Bhagalpur and the Superintendent of Police of Naugachia arrived on-site to evaluate the situation and provide directives to the relevant officials.

Disaster management teams and associated departments were promptly informed and coordinated with. Authorities have been using loudspeakers in affected villages to alert residents to remain vigilant and to seek higher ground if necessary. The administration urged people to disregard rumors and adhere to official instructions.

Currently, the Water Resources Department team is focused on repairing the embankment breach. The administration continues to monitor the spread of water and the situation in the affected areas closely. Officials have maintained active relief and security measures at the local level.
