Mumbai, August 19: Amid discussions surrounding the BJP’s new team and the ongoing ‘Vande Mataram‘ controversy, ministers Pankaja Munde and Chhagan Bhujbal have responded to recent speculations. Munde praised the inclusion of women in the new BJP team, while Bhujbal dismissed rumors regarding Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s potential shift to central politics, stating there are no current plans for such a move.
Pankaja Munde commended the party leadership for recognizing women’s contributions. She emphasized that the BJP has consistently assigned significant responsibilities to women based on their qualifications, not just numbers. Notable figures like Sushma Swaraj and Smriti Irani were given key roles in Prime Minister Modi’s first cabinet, and the current team continues this trend.
Regarding the ongoing ‘Vande Mataram’ debate, Munde mentioned she hasn’t closely followed the news and refrained from commenting on specific individuals or statements. However, she acknowledged the song’s importance as a national anthem tied to India’s pride, advocating for its increased rendition and respect.
On the appointment of guardian ministers in Maharashtra, Bhujbal clarified that no individual outside the Maha Vikas Aghadi has been appointed. The leaders assigned ministerial roles are from the coalition parties, working together to govern. He stressed that such appointments should not be viewed through the lens of political gain or loss.
Addressing the speculation about Fadnavis’s meeting in Delhi and potential central political ambitions, Bhujbal reiterated that Fadnavis has made it clear he intends to continue serving as Chief Minister. He noted the media’s ongoing discussions but stated he has no further information on the matter.
In response to comments from Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut, Bhujbal quipped that if an opposition leader speaks highly of Fadnavis, it is a point of pride for them.
Regarding a recent incident in Pune where a pothole led to a fatality, Bhujbal emphasized that the responsibility for citizen safety during road construction lies with the relevant agencies and contractors. He mentioned the potholes in Nashik, arguing that comparisons between districts should not be made. While construction may cause temporary inconveniences, it should not endanger lives.
He asserted that if accidents occur during road work, accountability should rest with the agencies involved, including municipal corporations, authorities, and contractors. Roads must remain safe for traffic, even when work is underway. Contractors are responsible for maintaining the condition of unaffected road sections to ensure safe passage for vehicles. Filling potholes must be done scientifically; merely dumping material is insufficient. Ensuring road quality and durability is essential.
