Bengaluru Woman, 26, Dies by Suicide Amid Allegations of Dowry Harassment

Bengaluru, May 24: A 26-year-old woman reportedly took her own life in the Whitefield area of Bengaluru. Just before her death, she shared her mobile phone password with her younger sister. The woman’s family has accused her husband and in-laws of mental and physical harassment over the past three years.

The deceased has been identified as Lakshmi Priya. Based on a complaint filed by her family, Whitefield police have registered a case against her husband, Rajesh Aradhya, her father-in-law, Palaksharadhya, and her mother-in-law, Bhagymma, under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Dowry Prohibition Act.

According to police reports, Lakshmi Priya married Rajesh Aradhya on May 11, 2023, at a venue in Mysuru. The complaint alleges that immediately after the wedding, Rajesh and his parents began to mentally and physically torment Lakshmi Priya.

The police further revealed that Lakshmi Priya became pregnant and gave birth to a daughter. Following the birth, she had been living at her parental home for the past six months.

On May 22, around 2:31 PM, Lakshmi Priya allegedly sent her mobile phone password to her sister, Jaishree, via WhatsApp. Her family attempted to contact her immediately but received no response.

Later, when family members called Rajesh Aradhya, he informed them that Lakshmi Priya had passed away. Following the complaint, Whitefield police initiated an investigation and registered a case against her husband and in-laws for subjecting her to mental cruelty and harassment.

The police are continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause of the woman’s death. This incident comes at a time when the Twisha Sharma case is still under investigation, involving a retired judge’s family.

Twisha Sharma, a resident of Noida, was found dead on May 12 at her in-laws’ home in Bhopal, just five months after marrying Samarth Singh, the son of retired judge Giribala Singh.
