
Bengaluru, April 25: A troubling incident has emerged involving officials conducting the National Census-2027 in the jurisdiction of the Bengaluru North Municipal Corporation. Reports indicate that these officials faced obstruction and verbal abuse while performing their duties.
On April 20, census officer Veena visited the Peri Monarch Apartments near Sultanpalya Main Road in RT Nagar to collect essential census information. However, a resident refused to provide the necessary details.
Following this, on April 25, during a verification process, supervisor Rashmi R. visited the site to request the required census information. The resident not only declined to cooperate but also obstructed the census work and verbally abused the female staff member.
In response to the complaint, census charge officer Dr. Lokesh has filed a case against the individual under Section 11(1) of the Census Act, 1948, and Sections 223 and 79 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The census is a matter of national importance, and obstructing officials in their duties is a punishable offense. Commissioner Pommala Sunil Kumar has warned that strict legal action will be taken against such acts.
The commissioner has urged the public to cooperate with census personnel and provide accurate information, as it is the legal duty of every citizen.
