New Delhi, August 14: The Chairman of the Bar Council of India (BCI) and BJP MP, Manan Kumar Mishra, has declared the controversy surrounding the enrollment of NALSAR University of Law’s 2026 batch students for legal practice as completely resolved. He stated that the letter sent to the university was retracted within approximately 30 minutes of its issuance and was never implemented.
In a conversation with a news agency, Mishra mentioned that all BCI members held a meeting at midnight to discuss the letter in detail. Following this discussion, it was decided to withdraw the letter immediately. He clarified that there will be no investigation into the matter and that the letter holds no legal or practical significance.
Mishra emphasized, “If anyone, including the CJP, has any confusion, I want to make it clear through you that this matter is completely resolved and closed. There will be no investigation.”
He highlighted the BCI’s commitment to protecting students’ rights. Mishra noted that the Bar Council of India’s aim is to safeguard the interests of the country’s youth. He referenced students Abhijit Dipke and Saurav Das, asserting that there is no discrepancy between the BCI’s objectives and the interests of the students.
Mishra also addressed concerns regarding protests and the future of the students. He stated that there is no question of jeopardizing students’ futures due to any protests. According to him, after discussions with CJP representatives at the central government level, it was decided to withdraw all FIRs, and there are currently no pending cases.
He reiterated that students are generally presumed innocent, and the BCI maintains this perspective. Mishra reiterated that no action should be taken against innocent students. He clarified that the retracted letter was never enforced, and there is no question of any action or investigation against the students.
