BCCI Mourns the Passing of Broadcast Engineer Ian Langford

Mumbai, March 31: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has expressed profound sorrow over the passing of veteran broadcast engineer Ian William Langford. Langford was a vital member of the broadcast team for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. He was found unconscious in his hotel room on the morning of March 30 and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

In an official statement, the BCCI conveyed, “The IPL Governing Council and all stakeholders express their heartfelt condolences on the untimely demise of dedicated broadcast engineer Ian Williams Langford. He was an integral part of our broadcast operations. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.”

Reiterating its commitment to those working behind the scenes, the BCCI added, “The IPL is committed to providing all necessary support to Langford’s family during this challenging time. The health, safety, and overall security of every member involved in the smooth operation of the IPL will remain our top priority.”

The 76-year-old British national was in Mumbai for IPL broadcast operations. He had been staying at the Trident Hotel since March 24. Langford returned to his hotel room after completing his work at the IPL match late on March 29. According to the Marine Drive police, hotel staff found him unconscious in his room on the morning of March 30. The hotel management promptly transported him to Bombay Hospital, where he was declared dead.

Initial investigations revealed no signs of foul play. Marine Drive police officials reported that the post-mortem examination also found nothing suspicious. However, they have registered a case of unnatural death, and the investigation is ongoing.

The IPL 2026 season commenced on March 28, with three matches played so far. A match between Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans is scheduled for Tuesday at New Chandigarh Stadium.
