Munich, May 9: Bayern Munich has suffered a significant blow as star player Alphonso Davies is sidelined for several weeks due to a hamstring injury. This injury occurred during the second leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain.
The Bundesliga champions confirmed the news on Friday but did not provide a specific timeline for Davies’ recovery. In a statement, Bayern said, “Alphonso Davies sustained a muscle injury to his left hamstring during the second leg of the Champions League semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday, as confirmed by the FC Bayern medical unit. As a result, Alphonso Davies will be out of action for several weeks.”
Davies suffered the injury while playing as a substitute in the second half at Allianz Arena, having replaced Josip Stanisic in the 68th minute. His presence initially improved the team’s performance, contributing to Harry Kane’s equalizing goal. However, he had to leave the field due to the injury.
The club’s statement confirmed that medical examinations revealed a hamstring injury in Davies’ left leg, ruling him out of upcoming matches. This means he will miss the remaining Bundesliga fixtures, including games against VfL Wolfsburg and FC Köln. Additionally, his participation in the DFB final against VfB Stuttgart on May 23 is now in doubt.
This is not the first injury setback for Davies this season. He was previously recovering from a serious cruciate ligament injury and faced hamstring issues in March. These recurring injuries have significantly impacted his season.
Davies’ absence raises concerns for Bayern Munich, which is already grappling with fitness issues among key players. His speed and defensive skills are considered crucial for the team. This injury is also worrying for the Canadian international, as questions about his fitness arise ahead of the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026, which will be co-hosted by Canada, the USA, and Mexico. The club has stated that the medical team will monitor Davies’ recovery, and decisions will be made based on his condition in the coming weeks.
