Bar Council Suspends Advocate Samarth Singh Amid Twisha Sharma Case Investigation

New Delhi, May 23: The Bar Council of India (BCI) has suspended the advocacy license of Samarth Singh with immediate effect. This decision is linked to the ongoing investigation into the death of Twisha Sharma, a case that has garnered significant attention in Madhya Pradesh.

BCI Chairman Manan Kumar Mishra issued the order, citing Singh’s alleged involvement and behavior during the investigation as reasons for this action. “We have suspended his license due to his role in the murder of his wife, Twisha Sharma. This has been established prima facie during the investigation. Additionally, he was not cooperating and was absconding,” Mishra stated.

He emphasized that until the situation is clarified in the trial, individuals like Singh should not be allowed to practice law. Mishra described the case as serious and sensitive, noting the involvement of influential people that could potentially impact witnesses and evidence. “His mother is a district judge. These are very powerful individuals, making it difficult for witnesses to come forward. There is a possibility of evidence tampering,” he added.

Mishra also supported the Madhya Pradesh government‘s decision to transfer the investigation to the CBI, stating that it would facilitate a fair and comprehensive inquiry.

Samarth Singh, who had been on the run following the alleged suicide of his wife Twisha Sharma on May 12, was arrested by Bhopal police on Friday from the Jabalpur court premises. Prior to his arrest, he had withdrawn his interim bail application from the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

The High Court, while disposing of the application, mentioned that if the accused wishes to surrender due to fear of police, he may do so before the trial court or the investigating officer, after which legal proceedings will follow.

In another significant development, the High Court has ordered a second post-mortem of Twisha Sharma’s body to be conducted by a team from AIIMS Delhi, as the family alleged discrepancies in the first autopsy.
