Bangladeshi Flight Lands in Karachi After 14 Years

After a gap of 14 years, direct flights between Bangladesh and Pakistan have resumed. A Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight from Dhaka landed at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi on Thursday, marking the restoration of air connectivity between the two countries after more than a decade.

Upon arrival, the flight was welcomed with a traditional water salute at Karachi airport. The Pakistan Airport Authority described this event as the beginning of a new chapter in the friendship between Pakistan and Bangladesh.

According to sources, Biman Bangladesh Airlines will operate flights twice a week between Dhaka and Karachi. The airline has been granted a license until March 30 to evaluate the situation before any further permissions are issued.

India’s Response

India is closely monitoring this development. In response to a question in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh stated that the Indian government is aware of Biman Bangladesh Airlines’ proposal to begin direct flights on the Dhaka-Karachi route.

When asked about any requests or proposals related to the use of Indian airspace for such direct flights, Singh mentioned that the matter has been handled in accordance with the provisions of the bilateral Air Services Agreement signed between India and Bangladesh in 1978, after considering all relevant aspects.
