New Delhi, March 20: Bangladesh High Commissioner Riaz Hamidullah met with India’s Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, in New Delhi. The two officials discussed ways to enhance economic partnerships between India and Bangladesh, address trade-related issues, and promote mutual interests.
Hamidullah expressed on the social media platform ‘X’ that meeting the Commerce Minister was a privilege. He stated, “He is a leader of exceptional intelligence, passion, and vision. We shared perspectives on deepening economic partnerships, inspired by the shared benefits for the people of both countries, and discussed solutions to current trade-related challenges.”
The Bangladeshi envoy further noted, “In the end, he was very impressed to learn about the heritage of Jamdani weaving.” Jamdani is a fine muslin fabric that originated in Bangladesh. This invaluable art of weaving has been formally recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage.
On the same platform, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar mentioned, “I met with Bangladesh High Commissioner Riaz Hamidullah. Our discussions focused on advancing our bilateral relations.”
India stated on Thursday that it continues to assist Bangladesh and other neighboring countries with energy supply needs while balancing domestic requirements, refining capacity, and diesel availability.
During a weekly media briefing, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal reiterated that India has received energy-related requests from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, the Maldives, and other neighboring nations.
He mentioned that India has been supplying diesel to Bangladesh through various transport means since 2007 and continues to support this South Asian nation and its neighbors.
Due to ongoing conflicts in West Asia affecting energy shipping routes, he noted that the supply of LPG remains a concern.
