Quetta, May 12: A prominent Baloch student organization has expressed deep concern over the deaths of approximately 12 workers in the Kuntani area of Gwadar district, who were seeking food and employment. The group labeled the incident as an example of “extreme barbarism” by the state.
The Baloch Students Organization Azad (BSO-Azad) described the event as a “massacre” carried out by Pakistani security forces, indicating a broader pattern of Baloch genocide. The organization stated, “Baloch citizens under Pakistani occupation have been deprived of their basic economic rights and are forced to work under extremely harsh conditions. Previously, Baloch workers have been targeted; their vehicles, shops, and small businesses have been destroyed. They are subjected to daily beatings and humiliation.”
The organization noted that a similar incident occurred a few months ago in the Jiwani area of Gwadar, resulting in the deaths of two workers. According to BSO-Azad, Baloch citizens are compelled to work in dire conditions while government officials, including personnel from the Pakistani Coast Guard, Frontier Corps, army, police, and other security forces, are reportedly extorting bribes from poor drivers and shopkeepers.
The organization alleged that even after receiving the agreed bribe, security personnel continue to beat and humiliate workers, burning their vehicles and shops. They termed this as “colonial oppression of the Baloch nation by the Pakistani state.”
Furthermore, the organization stated, “The Kuntani massacre is part of widespread incidents of Baloch genocide. The Pakistani occupying state is shedding the blood of innocent Baloch citizens daily. Every aspect of life in Balochistan has been destroyed, economic rights have been stripped away, and people have been forced to become displaced, plunging the Baloch population into an economic crisis.”
BSO-Azad has called upon the people of Balochistan, human rights organizations, and others to rise up in protest and voice their opposition against the “Kuntani massacre.”
In a separate incident in Gwadar, local media reports indicate that two people were injured in a drone attack near the Hotani market in the Dasht Shuleg area. According to The Balochistan Post, drones have been continuously spotted flying over Dasht Shuleg and surrounding areas since Sunday morning, with the attack occurring near the Hotani market.
