Baba Mahakals Rituals Change with the Arrival of Summer

Ujjain, April 2: Ujjain is known as the city of Baba Mahakal, where just a glimpse of the deity alleviates the fear of untimely death and transforms misfortune into good fortune. This is why devotees travel from across the country and even from abroad to seek blessings from Baba.

As summer begins, changes have been made to the worship rituals of Baba. Special arrangements are being implemented in the temple to protect the deity from rising temperatures.

The temple priest shared that an ancient tradition will soon be followed to provide relief from the heat, which involves offering sacred water from various rivers to Baba. In an exclusive conversation, he stated, “This tradition has been followed for centuries. To shield Baba from the increasing heat and to bring him joy, cool water is offered. Baba has absorbed the poison of halahal, which keeps his temperature elevated. Therefore, priests work together to ensure a continuous flow of water over Baba.”

He further explained that to lower Baba’s temperature, offerings of cool items are made, and cool substances are applied to ensure that the deity remains refreshed and comfortable.

The priest noted that during the months of Vaishakh and Jyeshtha, temperatures peak, and during this time, the sacred water stream is offered to Baba. Although water is offered daily, the sacred water stream is particularly special. For two months, water from earthen pots is poured over Baba, which contains water from the temple’s holy tank. This tank already holds water from all sacred rivers. Thus, for two months, Baba is provided with cooling relief through this method. He mentioned that this practice yields the benefits of many rituals and ensures peace, happiness, and prosperity in life.
