Thousands Seek Blessings at Baba Mahakals Bhasma Aarti on Chaitra Shukla Dwadashi

Ujjain, March 30: On the auspicious occasion of Chaitra Shukla Dwadashi, thousands of devotees gathered early Monday morning for the world-famous Bhasma Aarti at Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga. A massive crowd of worshippers was present from the early hours to witness the special aarti dedicated to Baba Mahakal.

The temple complex resonated with devotion and faith, as devotees offered their prayers and received blessings from Baba Mahakal.

This Monday’s aarti was particularly special as Baba manifested himself to the devotees after the aarti was performed. According to tradition, the doors of the temple were opened first, and at Brahma Muhurat, the Mahanirvani Akhara performed the initial water offering, followed by a ceremonial bath with Panchamrit. This Panchamrit consisted of pure milk, fresh yogurt, ghee, sugar, honey, and various fruit juices. After the abhishek, a grand Bhasma Aarti took place, where Baba was adorned with sacred ash, symbolizing his divine presence.

The Bhasma Aarti represents detachment and the truth of mortality. The ash used in the ceremony is prepared from the burnt remains of cow dung, Palash, Banyan, Peepal, and Ber wood. During the aarti, approximately 2.5 kilograms of ash is offered to awaken Baba Mahakal, following the traditional practice.

Following the aarti, Baba Mahakal was adorned with a special decoration. A crown was placed on his head, and a beautiful silver tripundra was applied, enhancing his divine beauty. He was then decorated with garlands of flowers, Bel leaves, sandalwood, and other offerings.

Once the decoration was complete, devotees were blessed with a glimpse of Baba’s magnificent form, which is considered his tangible manifestation. After this divine adornment, a Kapoor aarti was performed, followed by the offering of bhog.
