Greater Noida, September 24 (Daily Kiran) : A devastating bus fire on the Yamuna Expressway in Greater Noida has resulted in the loss of several lives, prompting expressions of grief from President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also conveyed his sorrow and announced financial assistance for the affected families.
President Murmu took to social media platform X, stating, “The news of the bus fire on the Yamuna Expressway in Uttar Pradesh, which has led to fatalities, is extremely distressing. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and wish for the swift recovery of those injured.”
Vice President Radhakrishnan echoed her sentiments in a post on X, expressing his deep sorrow over the tragic incident in Greater Noida, which claimed several precious lives. He also wished for the quick recovery of the injured.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, PM Modi expressed his sadness upon learning about the deaths from the bus fire. He stated, “I extend my condolences to those who have lost their loved ones and wish for the speedy recovery of the injured.”
In his announcement, Modi revealed that the next of kin of the deceased would receive a compensation of ₹2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund, while the injured would be granted ₹50,000.
Earlier, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also promised compensation for the victims’ families, stating that each family of the deceased would receive ₹2 lakh, and the injured would receive ₹50,000 each.
The tragic incident occurred late at night in the Jewar police station area, resulting in at least nine fatalities due to the fire. Emergency services managed to rescue a total of 30 individuals from the burning bus, which was en route from Delhi’s Kashmiri Gate to Mahoba. Following the incident, police have detained the bus driver and conductor for questioning.
