Nagpur, September 22 (Daily Kiran) : The Vice Chancellor of the National Institute of Ayurveda, Professor Dr. Sanjeev Sharma, emphasized that Ayurveda Day is not merely a celebration, but a platform to disseminate accurate and authentic information about Ayurveda to the public. He noted that Ayurveda embodies both traditional Indian wisdom and scientific knowledge, playing a vital role in enhancing health at individual, national, and global levels.
As Ayurveda Day approaches on September 23, Dr. Sharma expressed hopes that the event will effectively communicate the true essence of Ayurveda to the masses. He stressed the importance of providing authentic information directly from experts to the public, ensuring that accurate knowledge prevails over misconceptions. The message of Ayurveda Day should extend beyond urban areas, reaching grassroots communities. The primary goal is to educate people about the principles and applications of Ayurveda.
Discussing initiatives by the Ministry of AYUSH, he highlighted that the central government is working on extensive plans to promote Ayurveda globally. A major objective is to enhance its acceptance worldwide. Over the past decade, there has been a notable increase in the global recognition of Ayurveda, reflected in the growth of both exports and the domestic market, as well as a rising number of patients seeking Ayurvedic treatment.
Dr. Sharma pointed out that the true measure of Ayurveda’s success lies not just in market size or patient numbers but in fostering a healthy society. The focus should shift from merely treating illnesses to promoting overall wellness. He noted that students have historically lacked sufficient information about Ayurveda as a career option during their schooling. However, with growing awareness, interest among children and youth in Ayurveda is increasing.
He explained that admission to Ayurveda programs is now available through the NEET examination. While there has been a stronger inclination towards modern medicine (MBBS), this trend is changing, and Ayurveda is becoming a prominent career choice for students. The aim is to elevate Ayurveda from a secondary option to a primary career path for young people, necessitating widespread awareness and accurate information about the field.
