Axis Bank CFO Puneet Sharma Resigns After Six Years

Mumbai, June 29: Axis Bank, the third-largest private sector bank in India, announced on Monday that its Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Puneet Sharma, has resigned. He made this decision to embark on the next phase of his professional career.

According to the bank’s exchange filing, Sharma submitted his resignation on June 28, 2026. He will remain in his position until August 31, 2026, after which he will step down from his roles as CFO, key managerial personnel, and member of the senior management team.

Sharma has served as CFO of Axis Bank since March 2020 and brings over 23 years of experience in banking, financial services, and consulting. During his tenure, he played a crucial role in strengthening the bank’s financial activities and strategic planning.

Prior to joining Axis Bank, Sharma worked at Tata Capital for nearly 12 years, where he held several senior leadership positions. From 2014, he served as the Group Chief Financial Officer (Group CFO), overseeing financial control, planning, accounting, and taxation.

He is an alumnus of the Indian School of Business (ISB) in Hyderabad. Additionally, Sharma has held significant roles at Citibank, where he was responsible for structured cash solutions, treasury operations, and risk monitoring.

Axis Bank stated that Sharma resigned to pursue the next stage of his professional career. However, the bank has not yet announced his successor.

Meanwhile, the bank’s board approved the reappointment of two directors based on the recommendation of the Nomination and Remuneration Committee.

C.H. S.S. Mallikarjun Rao has been reappointed as an independent director for a second term of four years, effective from February 1, 2027, to January 31, 2031, subject to shareholder approval.

Additionally, Munish Sharda has been approved for reappointment as a whole-time director and executive director for three years, from February 27, 2027, to February 26, 2030, pending approval from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the bank’s shareholders.

At the close of trading on Monday, Axis Bank’s shares fell by 1.37%, ending at ₹1,357.70 on the BSE.
