Australian PM Albanese Questions Trump on Iran Attack Motives

New Delhi, March 30: The ongoing conflict in Iran has escalated tensions across the Middle East. Iran is retaliating against attacks from the United States and Israel by targeting American assets and bases in the region. This has caused significant damage to various Middle Eastern nations. Amidst this turmoil, questions are being raised regarding the strategic motives behind the U.S. actions against Iran. Following the U.S. Congress, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has also urged President Donald Trump to clarify the reasons for military action against Iran.

Prime Minister Albanese has demanded clear directives from President Trump regarding the objectives of the war in Iran. He emphasized the need to de-escalate tensions.

Albanese stated, “I want to be more certain about the purpose of the war, and I want to see a reduction in tensions.” In response to an appeal from the United Arab Emirates, Australia has deployed aircraft to assist in its defense. However, Australia has declined to send naval forces to help reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

Previously, the U.S. President had called on other nations to send warships to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. However, he received no assistance from NATO countries or Europe in this regard.

To exert political pressure on the U.S. and Israel, Iran has been targeting countries in West Asia. Recently, Iran launched an attack on Kuwait, resulting in the death of an Indian national.

The Qatari Foreign Ministry condemned Iran’s heinous attacks targeting a camp, a power station, and a desalination plant in Kuwait. In a post on the social media platform X, Qatar emphasized the need to stop Iran’s wrongful attacks against allied nations, expressing full solidarity with Kuwait and supporting all measures taken to maintain its sovereignty and security.

Kuwaiti officials reported that, according to the country’s Ministry of Electricity and Water, the attack on the power and desalination facility resulted in the death of an Indian worker and caused damage to a service building on-site.
