Australia Faces Setback as Cameron Green Ruled Out of First Test Against South Africa

Durban, October 6 (Daily Kiran) : Australia has suffered a significant blow ahead of their Test series against South Africa, which kicks off on October 9. Cameron Green will not participate in the first match in Durban due to a muscle strain. This was confirmed by head coach Andrew McDonald.

Green sustained the injury while playing a shot during the third ODI against South Africa. He was unable to join the Australian squad for the two-day warm-up match and has been limited to light physical conditioning since then.

Before Australia’s first full training session at Kingsmead, McDonald noted that while Green’s recovery is progressing well, he will not be ready for the Durban Test. According to Cricinfo, McDonald stated, “Considering everything, his recovery is quite good. He is still here, which means there is a glimmer of hope. Now he just has to go through the rehab process.”

McDonald added, “Next week will be quite busy for him as he will begin to resume some activities. You might see him practicing in the nets during lunch breaks. However, nothing is set in stone yet, but we hope he will play at some point during the series.”

Green’s absence is a significant setback for Australia, especially since the 27-year-old has been in excellent form with the bat. He scored a Test century against Bangladesh in Darwin and has emerged as one of the top batsmen alongside Steve Smith in recent series.

In the ODI series against Bangladesh in August, Green was Australia’s leading run-scorer. After playing in various positions during last season’s Ashes series, he has now settled into the number five spot in the batting order.

The first Test between Australia and South Africa is set to begin on October 9 in Durban, followed by the second Test starting on October 18 in Gqeberha, and the third Test on October 27 in Johannesburg.
