Darwin, August 13: The first Test match between Australia and Bangladesh is currently underway in Darwin. Australia won the toss and opted to bat first.
Travis Head and Jake Weatherald opened the innings for Australia. They managed to add 45 runs for the first wicket, but both batsmen were dismissed within just 12 balls. This quick loss of two wickets left Australia in a precarious position.
Jake Weatherald scored 23 runs off 37 balls, hitting four boundaries, while Travis Head contributed 22 runs from 39 balls with three fours. Marnus Labuschagne followed soon after, getting out for just 1 run after being dismissed by Ebadot Hossain. As of the latest update, Australia has lost three wickets for 64 runs in 19 overs, with Steve Smith on 7 and Cameron Green on 3 not out.
For Bangladesh, Hasan Mahmud took two wickets. He dismissed Weatherald, caught by Liton Das, and bowled out Head.
Bangladesh will not feature their in-form fast bowlers, Nahid Rana and Shoriful Islam, in this match. However, Shoriful has been declared fit for the second match in Mackay. A positive update for the visiting team is the return of wicketkeeper Liton Das, who missed the last Test against Zimbabwe due to a calf injury. Ebadot Hossain has been chosen to replace Khalid Ahmed as the third seamer, while Taskin Ahmed and Hasan Mahmud will take the new ball. This marks Bangladesh’s first Test in Australia in 23 years.
