
Sitapur, June 3: In a significant development, police in Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh, have arrested a suspect accused of plotting the murder of former MP Rajesh Verma. The suspect was apprehended following an encounter with law enforcement, during which he sustained a gunshot wound to his leg and was subsequently taken to the hospital for treatment. The Sitapur police are currently pursuing further actions related to the case.
Reports indicate that the suspect arrived outside the residence of former MP Rajesh Verma with the alleged intent to carry out the murder. Police officials revealed that the suspect harbored motives stemming from an old land dispute. He was reportedly armed with a firearm, ammunition, and a knife when he approached the former MP’s home.
The suspect has been identified as Shadab, a resident of the Tambour police station area in Sitapur district. Authorities stated that he was captured near a brick kiln in a mango orchard after the encounter. During the arrest, he fired two shots at the police with the intention to kill, prompting the officers to return fire in self-defense. One of the bullets struck the suspect in the leg, leading to his injury and subsequent arrest.
The operation was conducted under the direction of Sitapur SP Ankur Agarwal, with oversight from Additional Superintendent of Police North Alok Singh and the leadership of Circle Officer Abhishek Kumar from Laharpur. According to police reports, the suspect does not have any prior criminal history.
Circle Officer Abhishek Kumar commented, “SP Ankur Agarwal has issued strict directives against criminals involved in serious offenses. In compliance with these instructions, the Tambour police team arrested Shadab for conspiring to murder the former MP. However, he attempted to escape police custody midway, but was apprehended during the encounter shortly thereafter.”
