Attack on Kashmiri Shawl Seller in Uttarakhand Sparks Outrage, Demands for Action

New Delhi: A violent attack on an 18-year-old Kashmiri shawl seller in Uttarakhand has drawn strong political reactions and public condemnation. Iltija Mufti, leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), shared a photograph of the injured youth and condemned the incident, calling for immediate action from the Uttarakhand government.

According to Iltija Mufti, the young seller was assaulted with an iron rod, resulting in multiple bone fractures. She described the attack not as an isolated event but part of a series of violent acts against Kashmiris across India, where perpetrators reportedly enjoy institutional protection and impunity.

In a post on the social media platform X, Mufti wrote, “In Uttarakhand, this 18-year-old Kashmiri shawl seller was beaten with an iron rod until his bones were shattered. This is one among many incidents of violence targeting Kashmiris in India, where criminals know they will be shielded by the system. These are no longer isolated individuals; the BJP is actively mainstreaming these elements who are no longer marginalised.”

She also addressed Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami directly, questioning, Pushkar Singh Dhami, can we request you to take action?”

As of now, the local administration and Uttarakhand government have not issued any official statement regarding the attack.

The incident has sparked concern and raised questions about the safety and security of Kashmiris living and working in various parts of the country.
