Attack on Irans Natanz Nuclear Facility: No Reports of Radioactive Leakage

Tehran, March 21: The Atomic Energy Organization of the Islamic Republic has reported an attack on Iran’s Natanz nuclear facility, allegedly carried out by the United States and Israel on Saturday morning. Local media outlets have cited the organization for this information.

In a statement from the Tasnim News Agency, the organization declared, “The United States and Israeli regime targeted the Natanz enrichment complex on Saturday morning.” It also mentioned that there have been no reports of “radioactive (hazardous nuclear) leakage” in central Iran.

According to reports, residents in the vicinity have not suffered any harm. The news of the attack emerged following the onset of military conflict between the US and Israel. On March 3, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed that some damage had occurred to buildings near the entrance of the Natanz nuclear facility.

This statement comes amid questions regarding satellite images released by Israel. Recent satellite photos clearly show damage inflicted during the US-Israeli bombing campaign over the past two days. The international agency monitoring nuclear programs has confirmed the damage to the Natanz nuclear facility complex.

The agency reported on X, stating, “Based on the latest satellite imagery, the IAEA now confirms some recent damage to the entrance buildings of Iran’s underground Natanz Fuel Enrichment Plant (FEP); there is no danger, and no further impact on the FEP has been observed, which had suffered significant damage during the June conflict.”

The Natanz facility was one of the primary targets during the recent 12-day war between Israel and Iran, which the US eventually joined. On Monday, IAEA chief Rafael Grossi claimed that there were currently no signs of damage to any Iranian nuclear centers from the US-Israeli joint attacks.

Additionally, he urged the world to exercise extreme restraint. The IAEA chief clarified that there had been no reports of attacks or damage to the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, Tehran Research Reactor, or other fuel centers.
