Imphal, July 15: In a significant escalation of its anti-insurgency campaign, the Assam Rifles has launched a major joint search and sanitization operation in collaboration with the Indian Army, Border Security Force (BSF), and Manipur Police. This operation took place on Tuesday morning in the TM Kasom area of Ukhrul district.
According to the Assam Rifles, this coordinated effort was initiated following a recent ambush by anti-national elements near the Nungshang area close to National Highway-202. The security forces aim to secure the entire region, prevent suspicious activities, and strengthen actions against insurgents.
The joint operation involved comprehensive searches and a wide-ranging sanitization campaign conducted in close coordination among the Assam Rifles, Indian Army, BSF, and Manipur Police. Security agencies are maintaining constant surveillance in the area to prevent any future anti-national activities.
Earlier, on June 30, the Assam Rifles, along with civil administration and Manipur Police, initiated a joint operation in the border district of Kamjong to identify, verify, and biometrically register displaced citizens from Myanmar.
Defense spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mahendra Rawat stated that this initiative is a crucial step towards strengthening border management and providing controlled humanitarian assistance to displaced individuals from Myanmar. The Kamjong district in eastern Manipur shares an unfenced international border with Myanmar.
Under the directives of the district administration, the operation involved a joint team of 40 officials and personnel. This team included members from civil administration, police, medical department, and Assam Rifles, who worked together to verify the identities of displaced individuals, record their biometric data, and document their demographic information.
