Young Man Rescued After Falling into Gorge Near Gaurikund, Uttarakhand

Rudraprayag, July 16: A young man was rescued late last night after falling into a deep gorge near Gaurikund in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district. He has been sent to a local hospital for treatment.

According to initial reports, the incident occurred about two kilometers above Gaurikund on the Kedarnath pilgrimage route. The information was relayed via Dial-112. Following the alert, the district emergency operations center dispatched teams from SDRF, DDRF, and YMF to the scene.

Upon arrival, the rescue teams initiated their operation despite challenging conditions and darkness. After considerable effort, they successfully reached the young man and pulled him to safety from the gorge.

It was reported that the fall resulted in injuries, necessitating his hospitalization. The individual has been identified as 25-year-old Mohit Rawat, a resident of the Badasu village in the Ramapur area of Rudraprayag district. The exact cause of his fall remains unclear.

In a related incident, a motorcycle accident in the Chamoli district claimed the life of a young man in Gopeshwar. Police identified the deceased as Mukesh Negi. The accident occurred at the Lisa Factory bypass turn. Upon arrival, police found the young man trapped under a truck along with his motorcycle. He was extricated with the help of a JCB and transported to the district hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the truck driver was speeding towards Gopeshwar, colliding with several parked vehicles near Gawilo village. Attempts by the Patiyaldhar police station to stop the driver were unsuccessful, as he broke through barricades. The truck subsequently struck Mukesh Negi’s motorcycle at the bypass turn. Authorities confirmed that the driver has been arrested following the incident.
