Assam Police Seizes ₹10 Crore Worth of Yaba Tablets, One Arrested

Guwahati, August 18: Assam Police has achieved another significant victory in its ongoing campaign against drug trafficking. In Cachar district, authorities seized 50,000 Yaba tablets valued at ₹10 crore. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced this development on Tuesday.

Sarma praised the operation on the social media platform X, stating, “Like Humpty Dumpty, this drug trafficking consignment has also fallen. Cachar Police and Assam Police have done an excellent job.”

The drugs were discovered during an operation at an old MVI checkpoint in the Digharkhal area of Cachar district. Police stopped a truck and found a hidden chamber used for concealing narcotics. The hidden compartment contained 50,000 Yaba tablets, estimated to be worth ₹10 crore. One individual has been arrested in connection with this seizure.

This confiscation is part of a larger series of anti-drug operations being conducted by Assam Police. Operations continue in Cachar and other districts adjacent to northeastern drug trafficking routes.

In recent months, Cachar has emerged as a key hub for enforcement operations against Yaba and other narcotics. In August, Assam Police and Assam Rifles jointly seized approximately 1.1 lakh Yaba tablets and 223 grams of heroin in Cachar, valued at over ₹28 crore, leading to the arrest of three traffickers.

Previously, in July, a joint operation involving Assam Police, Assam Rifles, and district police units from Cachar and Hailakandi resulted in the seizure of nearly 80,000 Yaba tablets and the arrest of two individuals.

In June, Cachar Police confiscated around 29,200 suspicious Yaba tablets worth ₹2.9 crore in Silchar, arresting one person.

Sarma has repeatedly emphasized that the state government will continue its campaign against drug trafficking, working towards making Assam a drug-free state.
