Assam Government Launches ₹10,000 Crore Initiative for Rural Connectivity

Guwahati, August 19: The Assam government is set to enhance rural connectivity significantly. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a major initiative called ‘Assam Mela 4.0,’ with an investment of ₹10,000 crores. The aim is to extend road access to every corner of the state and connect rural areas to Assam’s economic growth.

Sarma shared the news on the social media platform X, stating, “We are bringing connectivity to every corner of Assam. After establishing a comprehensive road network across the state, we are now accelerating this transformation with Assam Mela 4.0. This ₹10,000 crore initiative will bring rural Assam closer to the state’s development narrative.”

According to government sources, the Assam Mela 4.0 project will involve the construction of approximately 800 kilometers of roads. The focus is on strengthening the state’s road infrastructure and improving connectivity in rural and less accessible areas that have previously faced challenges in access.

This initiative will build upon the existing ‘Assam Mela’ program, which has become one of the key infrastructure projects of the state government.

The new phase aims to enhance last-mile connectivity. Improved roads will facilitate the movement of people and goods, increase access to markets and essential services, and boost economic activities in rural regions.

This announcement comes at a time when the Assam government considers infrastructure development a crucial part of its economic transformation strategy.

The government believes that without better connectivity, investments will not flow, and trade and tourism will not grow. It is essential to link remote and rural areas to the state’s emerging economic centers.
