Guwahati, July 18: The Assam government has dismissed Arup Kumar Chakraborty, a 1999 batch Assam Civil Service (ACS) officer, following allegations of misconduct and violations of service rules. Officials announced this decision on Friday.
According to state administration officials, the Personnel Department issued the dismissal order after Chakraborty was found guilty in a departmental inquiry.
Disciplinary action was taken against the officer due to multiple allegations, including irregularities in recruitment and prolonged unauthorized absences from duty.
The departmental investigation concluded that Chakraborty had been absent from work without prior approval from the competent authority and had repeatedly failed to attend the office during official hours.
The inquiry revealed that his conduct was a serious violation of the Assam Service (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, leading the government to impose the maximum penalty of dismissal from service.
Officials stated that the Personnel Department reviewed the inquiry findings before issuing the final order for the officer’s removal from government service.
However, the state government has not made the detailed findings of the investigation public. Officials mentioned that action was taken in accordance with applicable service rules after providing the officer an opportunity to present his defense during the disciplinary process.
This dismissal is viewed as part of the Assam government’s ongoing emphasis on accountability and discipline within the state’s administrative framework. In recent years, the government has initiated disciplinary actions against several officials linked to alleged corruption, misconduct, negligence of duty, and violations of service standards.
Officials indicated that further action would be taken based on the inquiry findings, should it be deemed necessary under applicable laws or administrative procedures.
