Islamic Law Requires Justice for Polygamy, Says Maulana Chaudhary Ifrahim Hussain

Aligarh, July 18: Maulana Chaudhary Ifrahim Hussain, the royal chief mufti, welcomed the recent statement by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav regarding the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and polygamy. He emphasized that Islam does not permit injustice, deceit, or harm to anyone. If a person cannot ensure equal justice among all their wives, they should not engage in multiple marriages.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav stated that if Ramchandra can have one marriage, then Rahim should also be expected to have just one, as Muslim women are also our sisters and should not be subjected to injustice. The royal chief mufti praised this sentiment expressed by the Chief Minister.

In an interview, Maulana Chaudhary Ifrahim Hussain noted that the Chief Minister’s message reflects a commitment to justice and respect for women. The fundamental teachings of Islam are based on this principle. Islam does not allow any individual to cause harm, deny rights, or act unjustly. The permission for multiple marriages in Islam is not unconditional. If a person cannot ensure justice with their first wife or guarantee equal treatment and rights for all wives, then taking a second, third, or fourth marriage is not in accordance with Islamic teachings.

The royal chief mufti stated that deceiving any woman, violating her rights, or acting unfairly is against the core principles of Islam. If someone is unable to provide equal justice yet still engages in polygamy, they violate Islamic teachings. The essence of Islam is justice, compassion, and humanity. The faith teaches that no one should suffer, be harmed, or have their feelings hurt. Therefore, maintaining justice and equality within families and society is the responsibility of every Muslim.

Maulana Chaudhary Ifrahim Hussain expressed his support for Chief Minister Mohan Yadav’s statement, highlighting that protecting women’s rights and ensuring justice for them should be a priority for every society and religion.
