Guwahati, September 4 (Daily Kiran) : A special NDPS court in Assam’s Kamrup (Metro) district has sentenced three individuals to 15 years of rigorous imprisonment for trafficking 2.146 kilograms of methamphetamine tablets. Each offender has also been fined ₹2 lakh. This ruling was announced by officials on Friday.
The case stems from an operation conducted by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in October 2020. On October 14, 2020, the NCB’s Guwahati unit seized the methamphetamine tablets in the Six Mile-Khanapara area, near Rahman Hospital Private Limited, based on specific intelligence.
The three accused have been identified as Shakeel Khan and Mohammad Yahia Khan from Manipur, and Mithilesh Kumar from Bihar. Following the seizure, the NCB registered a case under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and arrested the trio.
After a thorough investigation, the NCB filed a chargesheet in court on April 8, 2021. Upon completion of the trial, the special NDPS judge in Guwahati found Shakeel Khan, Yahia Khan, and Mithilesh Kumar guilty under various sections of the NDPS Act.
On September 3, the court delivered its verdict, sentencing each of the three offenders to 15 years in prison and imposing a fine of ₹2 lakh. If the fine is not paid, they will face an additional year in jail.
The NCB emphasized that this decision underscores the seriousness with which organized drug trafficking is addressed, reinforcing the need for stringent action against narcotics networks.
