Assam BJP Must Rise Above Ticket Disputes: Senior Leader Bijoy Chakraborty

Guwahati, March 26: Ahead of the Assam Assembly elections, discontent is brewing within the BJP regarding the denial of tickets to several incumbent legislators. In this context, former MP and senior leader Bijoy Chakraborty emphasized on Thursday that the party must prioritize its collective interests over individual aspirations. He urged leaders and workers to avoid dissent.

Speaking at the inauguration of BJP candidate Diplu Ranjan Sharma’s election office in the new Guwahati constituency, the 86-year-old Chakraborty stated that the lack of a ticket should not become a reason for internal opposition.

“The party is paramount, not the ticket. No one should oppose the party simply because they did not receive a ticket,” he asserted. He added that the BJP has made its decisions thoughtfully, leaving no room for questioning.

Chakraborty’s remarks come amid a growing atmosphere of unease within the state unit, where many legislators and ministers have been denied tickets under the party’s candidate reshuffling strategy for the upcoming elections. Some leaders have publicly expressed their disappointment. However, BJP leadership maintains that selections are based on winning potential, performance, and long-term organizational interests.

As one of the party’s senior-most leaders, Chakraborty stressed the need for discipline and unity at this crucial electoral juncture. He noted that the strength of the BJP lies in its organizational integrity, and leaders and workers must collaborate to ensure victory.

Highlighting the party’s governance record, he stated that the BJP government in Assam has excelled in development and security, which should remain key points during the election campaign.

The veteran leader also expressed confidence in Diplu Ranjan Sharma’s candidacy and urged voters to extend their support.

The BJP is gearing up for a significant electoral battle in Assam. While the leadership is relying on its good governance and organizational strength, internal challenges regarding ticket distribution continue to emerge. Notably, many BJP leaders dissatisfied with ticket allocations have withdrawn their nominations after efforts from senior party leadership.
