Itanagar, August 15: Arunachal Pradesh Police has issued a warning to the public regarding the cautious use of social media. They advised against sharing or forwarding unverified images, videos, and messages related to incidents at the border and the movement or deployment of security forces.
In a statement from the Director General of Police’s office, it was noted that there has been a recent surge in the sharing of such content across various social media platforms. The advisory emphasized the importance of verifying information before dissemination, especially concerning security matters.
The police urged citizens not to upload or share any pictures, videos, or information about the location, movement, deployment, or operational activities of security forces. The advisory highlighted that even well-intentioned sharing could inadvertently compromise operational security and the safety of personnel.
Officials from Arunachal Pradesh Police recommended that citizens rely solely on official statements and verified sources for information regarding sensitive security events. They also called on the public to refrain from spreading rumors and unverified information, warning that such actions could instill unnecessary fear, confusion, and anxiety among the populace.
This advisory comes at a time when the use of social media as a source of information is on the rise, where unverified images, videos, and messages can spread rapidly. Often, these are presented as factual without proper verification.
